Core purpose of the role
To ensure the sustainability and improved profitability of the operations within SMD and to develop and execute a sales strategy that ensures that SMD retains and grows its leading market share position in South Africa.
Key deliverables and outputs
•Formulate strategic plans for the operational teams to ensure that the Business Unit attains its objectives as cost effectively and efficiently as possible
•Support sales opportunities across the company as required
•Create a standardised approach to Costing and response to commercial offers.
•Ensure understanding of the optimal customer solution and the options to meeting the customers requirement at best cost
•Ownership of the commercial process for multiple engagements simultaneously
•Coordinate resources that may be required to deliver offers in planned timeframes
•Provide input into Deal Committee meetings or other approval process that may be required in order to meet governance processes
•Identify and manage stakeholders groups through a defined stakeholder management plan
•Demonstrate functional acumen to support how solutions will address client goals
•Communicate progress on all current engagements to all interested
•Coordinate the contractual engagement with new clients.
•Ensure commercial objectives are reached
•Drive a culture of continuous innovation and improvement by ensuring that SMD remains at the forefront of the industry
•Manage financial performance and reporting.
•Prepare and gain approval of the annual budget
•Monitor delivery efficiently to ensure that budget targets are met, that revenue flows are maximised and that fixed costs are minimised.
•Support and manage business stakeholder in proposal process
•Ensure compliance with company standards and policies
•Drive all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures to create a safe workplace for all and meet legislative requirements.
•Establish and maintain effective formal and informal links with major customer stakeholders to cement sustainable relationships and ensure contractual KPIs are met.
•Develop, maintain and nurture client relationships from the solution design phase until successful delivery of outcomes to the client
•Negotiate favourable contracts and implement service level agreements with relevant business unit suppliers who meet the company requirements for compliant and B-BBEE certified suppliers.
•Correctly interpret and translate client requirements into world class optimal, cost saving business solutions
•Ensure at all times customer intimacy is of highest focus and customer expectations are managed successfully
•Manage internal supplier relationships effectively including operational excellence and other support services. Specific focus on relationship management with identified or allocated internal business units.
•Continually drive and manage the improvement of processes, methodologies etc. as a result of these interactions and relationships
•Ensure that principles of performance measurement and new opportunity assessment are understood as far as possible across the organizations. Ensure all employees are best able to use all available tools
•Coach and mentor employees with the aim of transferring knowledge and developing people
•Drive a culture of continuous improvement and innovation through developing a hands on understanding of Business Unit and Functional Department needs and requirements.
•Bachelor’s degree in business, BCom or equivalent
•Accredited tertiary degree/Post Graduate degree in business management
•5 to 7 years senior management
•5 to 7 years sales management
•5 years people management

•Have established networks within the relevant industry
