Specification
Being a mutual insurer brings with it additional and exciting actuarial challenges different from those at a typical shareholder-owned insurer. Our actuarial department (Actuarial Services) is expanding and we are looking for talented, driven and experienced actuarial resources to join our Valuations Department. The Valuations and Product departments work closely together and so being a part of our teams offers the opportunity to gain exposure to a wide variety of actuarial work in a life insurance environment.

The main responsibility of the role entails the IFRS published valuation and related processes, in addition to playing a key supporting role in the successful roll-out of IFRS 17 over the next two years.





RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
•Overseeing data checking process to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
•Overseeing model point and valuation data generation, updating assumptions, setting off runs in Prophet and consolidating results for actuarial valuations.
•Updating of IFRS and VNB valuation reports.
•Resolving auditor queries.
•Completion of relevant regulatory returns.
•Maintenance and development of actuarial models (DCS, Prophet, Qlikview and Excel).
•Overseeing and performing experience investigations for withdrawals, mortality, premium escalations and retrenchment rates.
•Support the ongoing implementation of IFRS 17.
•Mentoring and reviewing the work of junior staff.
•Solving business problems by applying actuarial techniques.
•Providing support with the development of new products.

Requirements
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION:
•Appropriate tertiary qualification in Actuarial Science.
•Nearly or newly qualified FASSA or the equivalent of another international recognised
actuarial body (eg IFoA).

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:
•At least 5 years life insurance valuations experience.
•Thorough experience with Prophet and DCS.
•Familiarity with prudential and financial reporting standards, as well as actuarial professional
guidance.
•VBA, SQL and Qlikview development experience will be an advantage.
